The Deyarman Medical Group

Patient FAQ's

Q: Is hair restoration surgery painful?
A: No, The DeYarman Medical Group goes to great length to make the procedure as painless and safe as possible incorporating local anesthesia and tumescents for numbing the tissue.

Q: After surgery, when can I start my normal exercise routine?
A: Presently, we recommend 7 days of rest before you add strenuous activity back into your routine.

Q: How long must you wait before you have another procedure?
A: The DeYarman Medical Group would like for you to wait at least three months before considering another procedure. This is so the blood supply can reestablish itself, to ensure adequate circulation for additional grafts. In medicine, this is referred to as collateral circulation.

Q: Can a hair system be worn following the surgery?
A: You may wear a hair system while you wait for the new hair to grow in. The system should be removed daily for hygienic purposes.

Q: How long before the hair actually starts growing after a transplant?
A: This time frame will vary with each situation; the more grafts that are transplanted, the longer it will take for the hair to grow in. The key factor to this concept is that each graft needs a good blood supply in order to grow. A patient should start to see hair growth by the third month with an average session.

Q: Will I ever lose the hair that I had transplanted?
A: No, you will never lose the hair we have transplanted. You will continue to lose surrounding hairs in your balding area. However, we have found that with the use of Minoxidil 2% and Propecia, the process of hair loss in the non-transplanted area decreases until another transplant procedure can be done.

Q: How many procedures will I need?
A: This question is very hard to answer and varies with each patient. Dr. DeYarman always ensures that if the patient chooses to only have one procedure, the results will always look natural and undetectable.

Q: Do you have any patients that I can see?
A: Yes, we try to match your characteristics with other transplant patients that are most similar to you.

Q: Do I get to speak with the Doctor or to a consultant?
A: You will speak only with the Doctor, as well as the medical assistants that are involved with your treatment. We must establish a complete understanding of your hair loss pattern. Once you become a patient of the DeYarman Medical Group, check-ups are planned every three to six months to check on patient progress including photos and video microscopic analysis.

Q: Am I the right candidate for a hair transplant?
A: We do not push this procedure off to be a quick sale. Dr. DeYarman diagnoses each patient accordingly. Dr. DeYarman does not particularly like to transplant men or women under the age of 30. From his experience and from many corrective surgery cases, this age group is handled with extreme care. Other doctors will do 3-5 procedures on the same patient in a year's time. We don't see some of our patients for 5 years. That's the way we like it.
